Food Glorious Food # 3 & Lucy the Possum Hunter

Hi everyone,
Some people were interested in the Warm Lamb Salad I made earlier this week and asked for the recipe. Well the bad news is there isn't a recipe, I made it up so I'll just tell you what I did.
Here are the ingredients: Sweet potato, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, red onion, haloumi cheese, fresh rosemary, olive oil, mixed salad leaves, garlic and lamb fillet.
You need to marinade the lamb in rosemary, olive oil and garlic for at least 5 hours.
Roast the red onion and sweet potato in the oven until cooked. Put the red onion in about half way through cooking the potato. If you want you can mix more garlic on the sweet potato by mixing a little olive oil with it.
BBQ the lamb for 10-15 mins depending on how you like it. We cook it so it's pinkish in the middle.
When the lamb is close to ready put the asparagus under the grill and cook.
Cut the haloumi into bite size pieces and fry in a pan (you dont need to put anything other than the haloumi in the pan i.e no oil)
When everything is ready you can let it cool for a few minutes then mix it all together with the mixed lettuce leaves and tomatoes.
Dress it in a light dressing. I use olive oil, tarragon vinegar, dijon mustard and a little sugar & salt.
Hope it works out ok for you. Like I said it's a made up recipe so sometimes you just have to play around with quantities.

G'day Maties

It's me Noah. Last week we had a special visitor who made it's home on top of our garden shed. It is over grown with a vine so it was hard to tell exactly who was living up there but we had a fairly good idea. I was crying to get to it and Lucy was barking. All in all we were making a bit of a racket so D & B came up with a plan.

B put the ladder up against the shed. He then picked Lucy up in his arms and started to climb up. He put Lucy on top of the shed roof and into the vines she went.....with gusto might I add. You wouldn't believe what happened then. A possum came flying out and raced straight up a big tree next to the shed. Well Lucy was so excited she jumped off the roof looking for the possum. Luckily she didn't hurt herself. The shed isn't overly high thank goodness. The plan worked and hopefully the possum wont come back.
Naturally D had the camera in hand and filmed the whole thing. Check it out!

Laughing out loud funny! Lucy was wonderful at doing the job dogs have trained for thousands of years to do - at last the humans get something back for giving dogs those thousands of free meals and years of comfortable shelter.

But it's daytime. How did you know a possum was there? Our suburban backyard has at least two species of possums living here but we never know where they are in the daytime.

You sure showed that possum who's the boss! I bet he didn't think you guys were tall enough to get him either. ha! It helps to have friends with ladders...

Nice weather down there!

'Dales 6, Possum 0 !!

Do you have a recipe for possum? Gotta admit, we're awfully impressed by the teamwork. You guys are certainly ready for the World Cup--or something.

Didja know that Australian Possum fur is ideal for the tail of the classic "Hare's Ear" nymph--tied with, well, the fur of a hare's ear, a gold braid rib, and a tail of the selfsame Possum of Oz? It's great for catching big trout during the annual hatch of Ephemerella Subvaria. It's really important that terriers know this.

Cheers,

Buster & Persephone

I think you guys should open up your own pest control service. Great idea by the pinkies, and you all executed it SO WELL! Lucy was like a rocket flying out of those vines & off the roof. So glad she didn't get hurt!

It was fun to hear an Australian goober voice (B's voice). And, Mango was right. He sounds very proud! I bet that possum is putting the word out to stay away from your garden!

Good thing your mama had the camera at the ready. And, we're going to try her salad idea. Well, my girl is going to try it!

Goober love & smooches,
Stanley

Well done Lucy, I hate possums but mum won't let me chase them because they're much bigger than me and she's scared I'll get hurt. Duh!

Yes the hot weather has returned, it is very muggy though so I think it might storm.
