Celebrating Australia Day

G'day maties,
Strewth it's a hot day....the sweat is pouring from our brows as the flies buzz around our faces. We give the great Aussie salute as we shoo away the flies. It's just a typical summers day but what makes this weekend special is it's also the Australia Day weekend.

Australians from Tassie to the top end celebrate this day....our National Day.

From the earliest white settlement at the end of the 18th century, Australians have striven to celebrate a national day, and in so doing, define what it means to be Australian. January 26 has traditionally marked the landing of Captain Arthur Phillip at Port Jackson in present-day Sydney.

Australia Day has become a community day. There are still formal ceremonies throughout the country - flag raising, citizenship ceremonies and the presentation of important community awards such as Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year, but 26 January has become much more for the average Australian.

How do the Leuradales celebrate I hear you ask......we wear our Akubra hats, that's how!

Happy Australia Day everyone.

We've been tagged

G'day Maties
Our new friends Baby Rocket Dog the airedale, Hootie the Welshie and their mum Cassie tagged us to play a game. The rules are open a document or file folder, click on the fifth folder and then the fifth photo. Post the photo and describe it, then tag 5 more bloggers to keep it going. Soooo, here is my photo:
Well as you can probably tell, this is a photo of my sissie Lucy. Not the most glamorous photo but a photo none the less. Here she is having a good old scratch after just having had a clip. I think she looks like a goose hehehe.
If you haven't played this tag please feel free. It's fun.
Well it's been pretty darn hot here. A cool change did come through this afternoon which is a welcomed relief. It's also been dry, we definitely need some rain.
D & B have been pretty busy lately. D is going mental at work and B has been painting one of the B&B guest suites so I have to apologise for not making it to all your blogs lately. We feel bad when we get bogged down with stuff here but I know you all understand. Life just gets in the way of blogging and that's just not fair.
Anyhoo this weekend is the Australia Day long weekend so hopefully we'll be able to get around to all your blogs.

Food Glorious Food # 3 & Lucy the Possum Hunter

Hi everyone,
Some people were interested in the Warm Lamb Salad I made earlier this week and asked for the recipe. Well the bad news is there isn't a recipe, I made it up so I'll just tell you what I did.
Here are the ingredients: Sweet potato, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, red onion, haloumi cheese, fresh rosemary, olive oil, mixed salad leaves, garlic and lamb fillet.
You need to marinade the lamb in rosemary, olive oil and garlic for at least 5 hours.
Roast the red onion and sweet potato in the oven until cooked. Put the red onion in about half way through cooking the potato. If you want you can mix more garlic on the sweet potato by mixing a little olive oil with it.
BBQ the lamb for 10-15 mins depending on how you like it. We cook it so it's pinkish in the middle.
When the lamb is close to ready put the asparagus under the grill and cook.
Cut the haloumi into bite size pieces and fry in a pan (you dont need to put anything other than the haloumi in the pan i.e no oil)
When everything is ready you can let it cool for a few minutes then mix it all together with the mixed lettuce leaves and tomatoes.
Dress it in a light dressing. I use olive oil, tarragon vinegar, dijon mustard and a little sugar & salt.
Hope it works out ok for you. Like I said it's a made up recipe so sometimes you just have to play around with quantities.

G'day Maties

It's me Noah. Last week we had a special visitor who made it's home on top of our garden shed. It is over grown with a vine so it was hard to tell exactly who was living up there but we had a fairly good idea. I was crying to get to it and Lucy was barking. All in all we were making a bit of a racket so D & B came up with a plan.

B put the ladder up against the shed. He then picked Lucy up in his arms and started to climb up. He put Lucy on top of the shed roof and into the vines she went.....with gusto might I add. You wouldn't believe what happened then. A possum came flying out and raced straight up a big tree next to the shed. Well Lucy was so excited she jumped off the roof looking for the possum. Luckily she didn't hurt herself. The shed isn't overly high thank goodness. The plan worked and hopefully the possum wont come back.
Naturally D had the camera in hand and filmed the whole thing. Check it out!
