G'day blogging maties,
Yesterday when D & B went hunting they came home with two new additions for our garden. They are a couple of citrus splitzer trees. They are called Splitzers because they are two citrus varieties grafted onto one root stock. They try to use the most compatible, the best performing and tasting citrus types.
Pinkies chose the Meyer Lemon & Naval Orange and the Kafirr Lime and Tahitian Lime. It will probably be a couple of years before they fruit but D can still use the kafirr lime leaves as they are great in Thai curries.
B dug in lots of cow manure where they plan to put them....yummers!

We've been having a great long weekend. We celebrate the Queens Birthday in June even though it's not really her birthday. Thanks Queenie for giving us a day off.tailwags

Mom pikhed a lot of cherries this afternoon then pitted them...she's going to khook 'em up tomorrow!
She let me try some of them as she pikhked - I wasn't interested since they are tart!

Granny just gave LS a small pot of kaffir lime plant too. Hopefully she doesn't kill it. It's great for Thai tomyam and curry. Sometimes LS uses the dried leaves as potpourri.
Hope you are enjoying every second of the long weekend!! Hmmm.. does it mean you'd be eating curry a lot more next time?? Our mom loves curry (but not too spicy)..

My favorite lemon is the meyer.
we have a fabulous one that has given us dozens of lemons every year for forty-six years.
That's very cool that you'll be getting lemons and oranges off the same tree in a couple of years! We can't wait to see if you guys will be helping yourselves to the ripe fruit!

Mom has never heard of putting two trees together like that but she is very jealous. She uses lemons and limes all the time and has never even tried a Meyer lemon but she really wants to!

That is such a good idea grafting 2 fruits to one tree. Hoomans can be bright at times.

Those are some healthy lookin' trees...Pap has a peach tree that he's been tryin' ta get peaches on fer years....the late frost ruined chances fer that this year...oh well, we'll keep tryin'....

Heh Misery is useless with citrus trees, she had an orange one but that died before it fruited. The lemon one is slightly better and we must have had a few tiny lemons off it, but she nearly killed it off recently because she hasn't watered it. It's started regrowing again from the bottom now. That idea for the lime leaves is good, maybe she can kill off a lime tree next.
